Almost Thanksgiving!

Hey everyone,

I heard comedy week was a blast!! Unfortunately I had the swine so I couldn't attend any of it :( however, I heard some good stuff and that we have some funny people at this school. Jamie Kennedy was here yesterday as well, and that is pretty cool.

I am pretty pumped about the theme for birthday ball, Ice Palace! That has some super sweet potential to be AWESOME!!! I want to dress up as the ice princess! jk, but seriously.. yeah.

Anyway, next week when we come back is the singer/songwriter showcase in the Egg, I will see you there.

And congrats to everyone in Troy Women, I heard it was awesome!

Yeah, so swine flu facts.. you are contagious for 2 WEEKS, btw. So even though you don't appear to have symptoms, keep washing your hands and be careful. If your friends had it, be aware and make sure they don't get pneumonia.

Ok cool. Fun fact of the day from me,

Weeks after he was born, doctors removed a small, partially developed womb from Sigmund Freud's abdomen!

So, no wonder why he was so interested in psychology, he was half female.. that must of seriously been confusing!

Until next time-- take it easy!

Friday Afternoons~

Hi Everyone!

This has been a crazy week at the OSA! Its comedy week, as you most likely know, and it has been hilarious! Last night was the Student Comedy Competition and id like to thank everyone who participated! Corey was just spot on, and deserved to win after coming up short last year. Ben had possibly the loudest laugh of the night, while he achieved second. And finally, rounding out the top three was Balen, a freshman who was great as well. Also, yesterday was the OSA's open house event! While the turnout wasn't outstanding, the Center for Student Involvement and Development is steadily getting more people to come and use its resources. I hope everyone comes out today for the RAVE at 11 pm in the egg and Jamie Kennedy on Sunday! See you there!!

COMEDY WEEK!!!

This week marks the second annual Student Events Board Comedy Week...which means...lots of laughs and memories! i know i am really excited for all the great events SEB has worked so hard to plan for everyone!! One of my favorite events every year is the Student Comedy Competition, which will be Thursday evening. We have such a large group of talented people on this campus, that it is always a joy to watch contestants showcase their talent and compete for awesome prizes.

Also, this year, the Student Events Board is proudly holding the first ever Rave at Washington College. This event will be Friday evening starting at 11:00 pm, and i hope you are as excited as i am to watch Dan Beadell (SEB's Director of Party Planning) bust a move!

Lastly, Jamie Kennedy...how exciting it is that?! Another large name comedy act to visit our school. Last year, Nick Swardson was such a success, and so well received by campus, that there was no way the Student Events Board could not bring back another comedy headliner to campus. Nothing like a bit of laughter to balance out the very talented musical acts they have brought/will bring this year, with the likes of Chad Stokes in October and the all-day outdoor music festival, Mayday Revolution on April 30th to look forward to.

All this happening this week, and i have not even mentioned the Game Center and everything it provides. Make sure to check that out, as we have received Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, continuing our expansion of games and improvement of services offered.

Anyway, i hope to see everyone out at the great events this week, or around the Student Center!

Until next time, be easy.

Tonight there is the Black and White Party courtesy of Black Student Union. It's from 9-2 in Center Stage (The Egg). Saturday night is DRAG BALL!!! This event is from 8-1 in Center Stage (The Egg). Come dressed in your best drag! There will be men in dresses and heels, and ladies in suites and ties!!

Party, Party, Party Let's All Get....WAC-y!

My Fellow WAC-ians,
Sorry, I always wanted to say that. Please don't judge me :-) Anyway, hey everyone, with this being my first official blog for the office, let me introduce myself. My name is Anjelica and I am the Student Center Intern. That's more than enough about me....
As you know, the month of November means one thing to college students everywhere: mid-semester blues. Sadly, at WAC we are not exempt from that. It's that time in the semester when the papers never seem to end, the exams sneak up on us in the early morning hours, and the presentations haunt our dreams . Where does a college student run to find reprieve from the perils of academia? (Sorry for the dramatics, I think I just wrote my first movie trailer). Well, if you're a student at Washington College, you must look no further than your own student body! (Not literally, YOUR body...nevermind, you get the idea).
In the past few weeks, the WAC student body has produced some awesome stress-relieving events including a Disco Dance Party courtesy of the Student Events Board, the World Series on a projector screen in the new Student Center courtesy of the Office of Student Activities, and pool, ping-pong, and video game tournaments also courtesy of the OSA.
But wait, there's more....this weekend the Black Student Union is throwing its annual Black and White Party and EROS is throwing its annual Drag Ball. But just in case that's not enough to kick Mr. Mid Semester Blues' tooshy, the Student Events Board is hosting its annual Comedy Week the entire week of November 16th!
On a serious note, I would be remiss if I didn't acknowledge the wonderful efforts of the AOPi Sorority in honoring their sister, Jasmine Queen who passed away last year. Her sisters continued their tradition of honoring her with their annual Queen of the Roses 5k Run/Walk to raise money for her scholarship. Jasmine was a friend of mine, and I know she would be proud.
Well, I think I've kept you for long enough.
United we stand in our fight against the mid-semester blues. Have a great week :-)

Well its been a fun and exciting week in the new student center. After a lot of late nights and hard work we are finally getting everything worked out. I do have to thank everyone who helped last Thursday when we were moving in. There are a lot of different events coming up in the next few weeks such as comedy week. this year comedy week is featuring Jamie Kennedy which will be held in Decker Theatre. Seating is limited so you should all get your tickets as soon as they go on sale. Also, there is an event almost every Friday/ Saturday from now until the end of the semester in the Center Stage. For instance tonight is the Disco Dance Party which is being thrown by C1ub 782(better known as the party committee for the SEB). That's all for now. Thanks
Ed

PS Drag Ball will be in The Egg (Center Stage) on Saturday, November 14th!!! Come in your best drag look. See you there!!!

Happy Advising Day!

Advising Day!
This week has been so exciting at the office! We had our first event in the Student Center's performance space; recently renamed Center Stage. The Battle of the Bands was a rockin' night and the costumes on both the performers and the audience were a sight to be seen. I've been poking in and out of the game room, trying my hand at pool (with little sucess) and shuffleboard (even worse!) but every time I go the place packed. I love seeing so many people together in the game room, it's definitely everything I imagined it would be.
In other news, the newsletter just came out for November and it reminded me why I love love love November- THANKSGIVING!
I had a lot of fun picking out all of the colorful squares for the calender because I have to admit I just love thinking about turkey and cranberries and pumpkin pie. It's actually going to be the first time my whole family is going to be together in America for the holiday since I was a little kid. I'm pretty psyched.

Have a great day off!
